May 16, Tiny Pants rated it liked it Shelves: Am I ashamed that I ordered this book from Amazon the day it came out, and that I read it in two sittings? I don’t even like this series all that much the previous one sat on my shelf chande a couple months before I bothered.
But circumstances conspired such that I purchased at nearly full price, no less and read this book altogether quite rapidly. And what did I think? I mean, Thee not going to lie — it was pretty enjoyable, and I finally have the main characters straight which really did take three books, since no one has enough personality to be really memorable — I still don’t have a chance with the secondary characters.
But this series is just not at all as good as the original Gossip Girl. Gosspi plots that are I think meant to be humorous are mostly just uncomfortable, Baby the Serena-like character is mostly just spacy and annoying without Serena’s charm, and Avery the Blair manque is a toothless Blair whose motivations remain unclear at best.
My favorite character remains the “villain,” Jack who doesn’t really have an equivalent in the original series, but who I’d compare to Cammie in The A-Listand even she winds up a bit neutered in this book. As for Owen, the third Carlyle triplet, I continue not to care.
Let’s face it, Gossip Girl has never been about the guys. In light of chande TV show, I am especially interested to see what they cahnce to do. They’re repackaging all the original books with new covers sure to confuse the heck out of people, since in the books Chuck and Dan are both possibly-gay laughingstock, not the show’s suave leading man and sweet boy from Brooklyn which they now depict on nearly half the book covers.
Sep 03, Jennifer Wardrip rated it it was amazing Shelves: Owen ended up stealing his best friend’s girlfriend. Avery dethroned the queen.
Take a Chance on Me
Baby ran off to Spain. Rhys gets into the hippie crowd after Owen steals his girl. Nothing stays quiet with Gossip Girrl around. I just can’t get enough of these stories. They are so intriguing and keep me guessing.
They are racy, but so enjoyable.
So much gossip is in each chapter. I can’t imagine this kind of thing happening in real life, but if it did I recommend these novels to anyone who loves YA. Mar 29, Emily rated it it was ok Shelves: Actually, this was pretty boring and kida predictable. Caflyles I kept reading was because I enjoy the New York chit-chat and the descriptions, but there was barely any plot in the book, and the characters I first liked became a bit annoying with their stories.
I just got one left, and I guess it won’t be any better.
Gossip Girl, The Carlyles #3: Take a Chance on Me by Cecily von Ziegesar
Though I liked this book’s ending -it could’ve perfectly ended here. Anyway, maybe I’m becoming too old to chahce this? May 13, Celine rated it liked it Shelves: The life of a teenager is always so busy with a tightly packed schedule. Especially, when you live in the Upper East Side, when your every move is being posted online by gossip girl. Avery, Baby, and Owen Carlyle have never just had one ordinary day of school and homework without any gossip.
The triplets have adapted to life in New York City, Owen rotating around his complicated love story, Avery fighting to gain the cover on Metropolitanand Baby always getting punished for breaking rules. Rhys has an ultimate breakdown and Owen struggles to gain his true friend back. Avery, on the other hand, works as an intern and tries to get her beautiful face on the cover of Metropolitan.
However, getting there must involve removing staples and organizing lipstick. Avery gets so close to success but she is smart enough to discover her true self, giving up whatever she worked on to be herself. While all this is going on, Baby, the other triplet has to have therapy as a punishment for skipping school for an entire week just to go to Barcelona. Baby strives to find her old self again and she becomes less dependant on men, which was really weighing her down.
What about her boyfriend? Well, JP went back to Jack, whom is back at the top again. Instead, Jack is on the cover of magazines, gets interviewed all the time, and has a tightly crammed agenda. I would recommend carlyels book to anyone who has read the first or second gossip girl Carlyle books. It wraps things up perfectly and it has a really good ending.
Feb 27, Diana rated it liked it Shelves: Or are you the one who’s always being gossipped about? Avery, Baby, and Owen Carlyle has never had a chznce day which doesn’t involve any gossip.
This is especially when each of their every move, every step, is being observed and Take a Vhance on Me Gossip Girl: This is especially when each of their every move, every step, is being observed and is posted online by gossip girl.
The triplets all have their own life and different things occur to each of them, but this doesn’t stop the gossip around them. The writing style of Cecily von Ziegesar is different than others because it seems like readers like me are watching a movie. There are things posted up online which readers are able to imagine, and that creates imagery. We’re able to visualize what’s happening in the book and we can assume what’s next to come.
I would recommend this book to people who’ve read the first and second book of Gossip Girl: The Carlyles because it’s like an addition to what’s happened in the previous two books.
I’d also recommend this series in general to oen who are interested in clothing and fashion, and people who are gossippers themselves, so they’d enjoy the book, too. May 04, Astoria rated it it was amazing.

So this book, was amazing, Sidney tells Avery that even though her and Jack hated eachother, they were probably gonna end up being best friends, and it happened. Rhys takes a time out from Swimming, glrl Owen discovers taht is never worth it to lose a friend over a girl. And that he and Kelsy are a great couple when it comes to physical, but not emotionally connected at all. Jul 16, Kate rated it liked it Shelves: I really liked the ending of this book.
I found it was a nice way to end the books so far. I liked the characters more and more in this novel. I like how they all kind of went on to try to find themselves and faced some real problems unlike the characters in the original series.
All in all I found this one to be the best book so far out of this series. Mar 13, Alyssa Calloway md it it was ok Shelves: View all 5 comments. Aug 09, Baige Bell rated it did not like it. This book was dreadful. Owen should not have been a POV character and honestly neither should Baby. Neither of them did anything interesting throughout the entire book. Avery is also possibly one of the most boring characters in literature.
