David ‘s review Mar 22, The back of this book advertises that you will find “real Mexican” stories inside. But these are stories from another time written in the mid twentieth century mexicanso they are certainly not “politically correct” for our times.

Traven was a German immigrant to Mexico who fell in with the cultural and literary scene like Rivera, Kahlo and Siqueiros. Luisa is a very arrogant and selfish woman who, if she doesn’t get her way, explodes into a rage. Working in her aunt’s “Tack and Saddle shop” she meets Juvencio, owner of a small ranch who woo’s her into marriage.
The young man is adamant to marry her even after an arguement tigrsa Luisa smashed a glass over Juvencio’s head. One day, not long after their wedding, he asks Luisa for a cup of coffe?
Juvencio then asks the caged parakeet to get him a coffee.
100 años de La Doña: A Tribute to María Félix
When the bird doesn’t respond, he shoots the bird. She is repulsed but only takes action after he threatens the cat and the horse. I guess this is his way of “revenge” or to “break her”. The humour is there but as I caution, definitely incorrect. These are stories of natives and colourful locals who come up with their own creative solutions to each of the ten stories in the book.
There is the dee of the doctor who finds a poor native person sitting outside his house asking for help to find his wife. The language from the native is very colourful and enjoyable and reesults with a most odd outcome.

Some are blindsides or hoodwink stories and from my perspective, may actually paint “real Mexico” as not one expects. However, tigrsa you keep in mind the entertainment factor and the period that they were written, you might actually crack oa smile or smirk after each story.
